Creative Website Spotlight: Alex Buga

Posted by The Design Assassin (Admin) On August - 18 - 2010

Alex Buga site

I like a good creative website just as much as the next techie, web nerd so I’ve decided I should post some of the cool sites I’ve come across and get back to posting some of the more cutting edge design floating around out there on the interwebs.

Sure, it’s not always made to be legit and pass every coding rule-book, but like many designers’ personal websites, experimental can be fun. I wanted to do something more experimental for my revamp, but time wouldn’t allow. Not yet anyhoo…

Check out Alex Buga’s site for fun in the meantime.
Complete with mini-drum machine if you feel the urge to bash out some angst.

Vanishing Point: Quirky Post Modern Video

Posted by The Design Assassin (Admin) On April - 10 - 2010

Found this cool little quirky vid which combines Cinema 4D reality with After Effects.

It’s short but I like it. Movie: “Vanishing Point” by Takuya Hosogane (a motion graphics editor from Japan).

Ok today’s post is an example of simple, but effective animation.

Rejected – Best Oscar Award Winner Movie

Goes for 10 minutes so you may want to watch it when you have a Smoko – do these excuses for breaks even exist anymore, or is there a workplace ban on them too? Make sure you catch the end where it gets more creative ;-)

The Oatmeal – why it’s better to read than eat

Today’s offering is a link to a website I like to check out every so often during “rendering time”… Meet Mathew Inman. A nutty web nerd who makes great cartoons, comics, quizzes and silly shit that is really entertaining.

Why? Cuz even a workhorse designer needs some humor in his/her/its life occasionally, and this guy makes me laugh.

I only need to post one link as there is enough on his site to keep you entertained for some time. Providing you have a sense of humor of course…

Happy New Year Kids!

Happy New Year Kids!

(PLEASE NOTE: this post was transferred from the old blog)
Ok, so its a little late. But as they say, better late than never…

So. What does 2009 have in store for us this year?

Well, for starters America has a new president. That in itself heralds a new change. He might not be as foolish or funny (read: amusing) as George Bush. But what the hey.  (I will miss those Bush-isms though)…

Given the way the current climate has rained on our financial parade, there will possibly be more turmoil on the economic front. Perhaps however, this will push the world to find more creative and less hedonistic ways of living.

How does this affect us locally? How will this affect globalisation? Food crops, starvation and poverty are on the rise. Even in the developed Western world. Read the rest of this entry »
